Rob Murray

AKA “Ugli Bob”, Rob holds an MA degree from Rhodes University, training under South African theatre maestro Andrew Buckland, and is also trained as a theatre technician and in theatre management and administration.

Rob is a founder member and artistic director of the multi award-winning theatre company, from the hip: khulumakahle (FTH: K). There, he is charged with developing their signature approach to non-verbal, visual, and clowning performance, has performed as the overbearing Innkeeper in GUMBO, and made innovative works such as Pictures of You and ‘Nuff Sed.

Over and above that, he is a very active theatre maker and educator in Cape Town, directing shows like the cult classic, The Dog’s Bollocks, the award-winning Birds’ Eye View, and dumbshow.

A continual work-in-progress, Rob has worked at Rhodes University, Community Arts Project, Arts and Media Access Centre, CityVarsity, AFDA Cape Town, University of Cape Town, and New Africa Theatre Academy. He is also a co-author of an Arts and Culture textbook, MML Today Series, writing on theatre.
