Famished
Those clowns from Joburg, Fresco Theatre, are at it again - let all the bells ring! Notices are going up for auditions for their latest work, commissioned by the National Arts Festival, based on Ben Okri’s Booker Prize winning The Famished Road.
Fresco are calling for strong physical actors, with experience in workshopping/ devising theatre and a good understanding of the English language. Puppetry and mask work experience would be a welcome bonus.
Here’s the skinny - Auditions will be held in Johannesburg on the 14th and 21st of February (venue to be confirmed).
Interested and available performers are asked to please submit their photo and CV to helen@frescotheatre.co.za by 10 February.
Rehearsals are from May, with the show premiering at the National Arts Festival in July this year.
Any Fresco show is an eagerly anticipated event. This one is no less intriguing. One of their aims is to bring together the talents of artists from different parts of the continent in an 8-strong ensemble. With a strong visual leaning, and cross-cultural gatherings, it looks like it’s going to be a fascinating piece of magic realism theatre. Can’t wait.
